Tasting notes
A pungent nose is presently on the troubled side with heavy reduction and menthol hints dominating. As would be expected this is both bigger and richer than the Chevalier though with good minerality here as well adding lift to the broad-shouldered flavors that remain energetic because while there is plenty of imposing size and weight there is no undue heaviness. I like this quite a bit as the balance is impeccable, which when combined with superb length make for a formidable combination.Tasted from barrel ? whence it was to have been racked and sulfured for the first time when it is bottled at the end of its second summer ? it mingles striking wisteria perfume with scents and flavors of blueberry, pomegranate, black raspberry and smoked meat. Mouthwateringly salt-tinged and with crystalline suggestions of stony counterpoint, its infectiously juicy primary fruit informs a silken-texture palate and strikingly vibrant and persistent finish. Saouma waxes positively mystical about his nascent Chenas. ?When you communicate your love to a product and you feel that the product is communicating its love to you, too, you have this faith that it will last forever.? I would certainly be inclined to seek out some of this compellingly complex, concentrated yet buoyant fugue of floral, fruity, carnal and mineral elements with the intention of following over the coming decade if not beyond.
